Your life as a student at ASE Bucharest begins with international student orientation.

We recommend you to arrive at least a few days before the beginning of the academic year (approximately October 1st every year) in order for you to get your paperwork in order and register for classes. There will also be fun activities that will help you get to know other new international students and start to feel at home at ASE (organized with the help of our partners from the Erasmus Students Network – ESN ASE Bucharest).

Erasmus Students Network (ESN) is the largest student association in Europe. Created in 1989 for supporting and developing student exchange, they are currently present in more than 800 higher education institutions from 39 countries. The ESN volunteers can help you get around the city and campus, offering services such as airport / train station pick-up, campus tour, buddy programme.

They will also organize different events helping you better integrate the ASE community and know other international students: city tours, parties, cultural evenings, parties, trips etc.

It is extremely important that you plan your orientation activities and make sure we can accommodate all of the students who will be attending the program.

We will need a number of documents to facilitate the orientation process. Please bring the following items to orientation:

Exchange students
The certificate of arrival – filled in with your data
Any other documents required by your home university

Degree-seeking students (non EU, EEA, Swiss citizens)
Original application documents:

The registration will be provisional, until the end of the admission process: study documents check, language test and confirmation of payment of the tuition fee for the entire academic year. This provisional registration gives you the right to attend classes and use the university facilities until the admission process is completed.

The language test is compulsory for all the applicants who don’t have an international certification or aren’t native speakers of the language of study (Romanian, English, French or German). The registration for the language test or the equivalence of the test will be done with the general registration. The test will be scheduled during the 3rd week of October.

For the students who satisfy all the admission criteria, the final registration will be complete and they will integrate the regular cohort of students of the faculty.

The Department for the relationship with the social and business environment ensures the liaison with the companies and the social actors. It organizes events helping you to prepare for the job hunting and thus increase your chances of getting a relevant job when you finish your studies at ASE.

In order to finance your studies in Romania by scholarships, we recommend you contact the competent authorities in your home country/university. For scholarships attributed by the Romanian Government, please consult the web-site of the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research (www.edu.ro).

The official Romanian currency is the “Leu” (plural “Lei”) and the official denomination is Romanian New Leu (RON – Romanian New Leu). All the payments are made in the national currency, even if some prices are expressed in the equivalent in Euro. The exchange rate is floating (there might be slight variations in the exchange rate); the official exchange rate is determined by the National Bank of Romania (rates available on www.bnr.ro). In order to exchange money, one may use banking services (ATM or bank exchange offices) or the exchange offices in town.

Shopping can be done in hypermarkets (large shopping galleries), supermarkets, small neighborhood markets and markets (especially for the agricultural products). Shops are usually open all day long during the week (from 7:00/9:00 until 21:00/22:00) and on Sundays (some of them until 14:00, some others until 19:00). Some small neighborhood shops may even have a non-stop schedule. The marketplace is usually open until 21:00 during the week and around 18:00 during the week-end. Bargaining is not customary, except for the marketplace, where you can try to negotiate the price.

Bucharest is a vibrant city and has a wide range of restaurants, pubs, bars and clubs – the most frequented by the students are situated in the old city center, Regie area and the northern part of the city (Herăstrău area). Depending on the restaurant you choose, a typical meal could cost between 40 and 150 lei / person (equivalent of 9 to 30 Euros).

Students have a wide variety of choices when it comes to accommodation while studying at ASE.

Student housing is generally one of the most affordable accommodation you will find in Bucharest and also one of the best ways to meet new people. You can quickly build your social network and make new friends by living exactly where so many other students choose to live.

The university offers housing all around Bucharest – near the city’s northern lakes and parks, as well as in central locations, right in the heart of Bucharest. All student facilities come with specially designed sports facilities and study rooms, meeting all student life needs. The 12 student residence halls comprise of more than 4300 living arrangements, fully equipped and offering good standards of living at student prices. Room occupancy is 2 to 4 people, depending on the residence type.

Since the number of rooms is limited in the campus, it is recommended to announce your interest as soon as possible. Housing is guaranteed for students coming on scholarship and exchange programs and the application process is done through the Department for International Relations in cooperation with ASE’s Social Service, which manages the residencies.

Depending on the type of room, facilities and the financing of your studies, accommodation in campus could cost between 30 and 150 Euros/month.
In case you choose private accommodation, the university does not take any responsibility for finding private accommodation for the students. The apartments in Bucharest can be quite expensive, especially if they are situated downtown. Rents can reach 200-400 Euro/month for a one-room apartment and 300-500 Euro/month for a two-room apartment. The rent does not include utilities or other facilities like cable TV or internet access.

Computer access is available to all students in all the educational buildings in specialized access points or computer rooms. Access to the computer rooms is free during the individual study periods (access granted on student card).

Wireless hotspots are available around campus. Access to the ASE Secure network is available based on your student ID code.

On the ground floor of the Madgearu building, there is a free computer within the Romanian – Korean computer area (free access for one hour, ID needed).

All the residences are equipped with high speed internet connection (upon arrival, the configuration codes will be delivered for the interested students).

In terms of food you can have lunch in one of the canteens of ASE. One is located in the Moxa Complex (Mihail Moxa str. 11) and the other one near Piața Romană (Cihoschi str. 5). The canteens provide fresh, varied three-course menus throughout the academic year.

The Moxa canteen has special prices for students and you can take a full meal with around 13 lei (3 Euros), you might be required to prove you are a student (by presenting your student card). Usually the dishes prepared in the same day and you can check for the weekly menu on the following web page: social.ase.ro/cantina. The opening hours are from Monday to Saturday, between 12:00 – 16:00 (lunch) and 17:00 – 19:00 (dinner).

The Cihoschi canteen is open from Monday to Friday, between 13:00 and 16:00. A complete meal (2 courses and a desert) would cost approximatelly 20 lei (4.5 Euros).

Around the campuses, there are different restaurants and sandwich bars offering a large assortment of sandwiches, salads, snacks and other food at affordable prices (ranging from the equivalent of 1.5 to 4 Euro).
